The genre, which seemed to have started as a joke on the internet, is in great shape now, with producers all around the world: USA, Japan, Greece, UK, France, Jordan, Italy and many other countries. Labels like Business Casual, Montaime and Stratford Ct are the most notorious. They mostly sell their music digitally online on Bandcamp or on a very limited number of vinyl and cassette copies. Some of those scarce cassettes already became very expensive in the music collector’s circle in just a few years.

Many of the Future Funk music producers are very young, born in the late 90s, so they sample funk, soul, disco, synthwave, TV commercials and Japanese animation soundtracks from the 70s and 80s in a very unique way. Some tracks could be considered remixes, while others might sound disrespectful to the original from a conservative point of view. And that’s the beauty of the genre: it breaks boundaries, the grooves are deconstructed to express new emotions, they don’t follow the patterns of simple loops, grooves and layers over a beat of previous genres like house and hip-hop. V-Run is the alter-ego of DJ Zulu, an international funk and disco DJ, sound technician, radio host, music director, dubbing actor and occasional remixer from Barcelona.
